Soul Ties

Soul ties are bonds that are formed (physically and/or spiritually) between individuals or animals. Soul ties can also be entranceways for temptation and bondage by Satan (and his errant spirits).

Within the context of this message, I would like to focus on soul ties that are formed through sexually-influenced relationships (i.e. sex, flirting, lusting). Many, many, many Christians do not consider the spiritual implications of their life and faith. For those that engage in these relationships, they may find themselves ‘tied’ (or drawn) to some (or all) of those individuals years later.

Now, there are healthy soul ties (physical and spiritual) that are formed. Here’s a few scriptural examples: (1 Samuel 18:1; Acts 4:32; Philippians 2:2).

Just as there are healthy soul ties, the opposite of these examples can produce destructive soul ties that lead to temptation and sin.

Have you ever met someone and felt extremely drawn or pulled to them? This can be a soul tie that is trying to be formed between one or two like spirits.

There was a young woman I knew for some time. We served at the same church and worked fairly close to one another. One day she came to my job to talk, but her visit was different from our usual conversations. I felt like someone placed a rope around me and was trying to forcibly pull me toward her. Immediately, my sexual ‘senses’ were going and I was very scared. (I was so afraid that my hands and voice were shaking.) She started telling me about her weaknesses with men and things she was tempted with. I had never experienced a stronger physical force (of sexual temptation) in my life.

I didn’t ask God to cut the soul tie that was formed (because I didn’t know what it was), but I prayed and stood on God’s word – through His strength I was lead from the temptation.

By the next day, the feelings subsided and when I saw her again, the pulling sensation was gone.

Have you had a friend that you felt close to and had a strong desire to pursue a relationship with them?

There was a young woman I knew in the ministry. I could tell that she had a strong anointing on her to preach and was in the beginning stages of her ministry. We became friends in a short time, but our conversations would often drift to things we did before we came to Christ: multiple sexual partners, going to the club, etc. I didn’t see her much outside of church, but I had a constant desire to be in her company.

One day, I had a vision of a photo of the two of us with two boys. It was accompanied with thoughts telling me that this woman was to be my wife. How is this woman supposed to be my wife when I’m already married? It didn’t make any sense – that can’t be God speaking…

A few weeks later I ran into her on my way to work. We talked about general stuff and we were about to part ways. As I was leaving, the words “I love you” almost came out! I must have jumped a foot back in fear and bewilderment.

Something was definitely wrong! Later that day I searched the internet for information on soul ties. After reading some information and praying to break the soul tie, the thoughts, visions, and desires ceased.

Even when asking God to break any soul ties, Satan may look for other opportunities to tempt you (1 Peter 5:8-9)…remain alert, stay vigilant!

Many people mistake these situations as a ‘sign’ to pursue the relationship. These are deceiving spirits trying to tempt you to have a relationship with this person, commit adultery, leave your marriage, etc.

Don’t be deceived in thinking God would want you to leave your spouse or pursue sexual relationships outside marriage!

Have you ever had a sexual relationship (intercourse) outside of marriage and found yourself thinking about the person; have a desire to be with them; felt connected after the relationship ended; or had dreams about them?

When I was young, I had an intimate relationship with a girl – these interludes spanned several years. (We did not have sex, but we did more than hold hands.) Since that time, I had only seen her once or twice, but sporadically over the years thoughts of her would come to me. I wasn’t sure what prompted the thoughts, but they were usually sexually graphic.

Earlier this week, I had a very graphic dream about her. I immediately jumped out of bed. I figured there was a remaining soul tie between us and Satan was using it as a channel for temptation. Fighting off these temptations was very difficult. Even thinking about her would bring sexual arousal. After reading some information on soul ties and praying to break the tie, the thoughts subsided.

These relationships deal with physical nature, but they begin in the spirit realm (Ephesians 6:10-12). They are destructive bonds that will keep you out of God’s will and will destroy your life and others.

Don’t allow yourself to become one (sexually) with anyone that is not your spouse:

Proverbs 5:22 (KJV)His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 (KJV)Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

2 Timothy 2:22 (KJV)Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Satan is using sex as a mechanism for temptation. Satan wants to destroy you (John 10:10) and will look for opportune times to do so. Ask God to reveal any soul ties in your life and break them! Keeping these ties unbroken will only leave entrances to bondage and sin!

Free yourself from the prison of soul ties!

Luke 4:17-21 (KJV)And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

1 John 1:9 (KJV)If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Dear Lord, forgive me of the sins I have committed (listed them specifically). Break the tie between (list specifically) and free me from any ties that were formed through my sins. Remove any avenues for Satan to torment me and bind me to sin. In the name of Jesus Christ, I ask that you cover me anew in the Blood of Jesus, cleansing me from the stains of sin. In the name of Jesus Christ, I ask these things in prayer. Amen.

Hero Syndrome

Within many men is the desire to be a protector and provider. You can see this in their thoughts and decisions. They want to ensure every need is met and every heart is full. Every need. Every heart.

But what happens when the hero tries to save everyone? What becomes of the hero’s primary mission?

Throughout the Bible, there’s a theme where God uses enemies to advance His will and propel His people toward their destiny and purpose.

If you have enemies coming against you:

Business vs. Church

Businesses work to become as large as they can. Churches are not to operate like businesses. A church should only grow as large as the Lord wills it to grow. Be obedient to the purpose, direction, and even size He calls your church to become, not what you desire because of ego (pride of life).

Take the first step to love. Not everyone around you will love you. People will hate you. They will be mad at you. They will find ways to take advantage of you and persecute you. Even people close to you.

Be the first to take a step toward love. Go to God with your feelings. Make a conscious, deliberate decision to love and forgive. Smile. Be nice. Give to others freely without cost. Believe.

The Lord’s Gym

Suffering through trials, trying times, and other difficulties are hard days. Our hearts and souls mourn for relief. Tears run down our face. Pieces of our heart fall away. We want to quit and find the nearest exit out of our situations.

As difficult as these times are, they are the very environment where we grow and build ourselves as God’s children. These are the opportunities to teach us to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, do good to them that hate us, pray for those who despitefully use us and persecute us, and be obedient to the Father’s will.

1–It is an emotional ‘event.’ Think of your emotions as a gas tank. A person only has so much to give and loosing close relative drains most of it.

Each time a person comes to the house or calls, especially within the first 24 hours, the close relatives have to draw from that ‘tank’ to gain enough energy and emotional strength to have a conversation.

Loving Others as Yourself

What does it mean to love someone as yourself (Matthew 22:36-40)?

1. It does not matter how another person treats you. Their behavior is not your standard, whether they behave in good or bad ways.
