See. Hear. Believe.

Do not allow what you see or hear to dictate what you will believe.

Numbers 15:37-40 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.

The Lord spoke to Moses for the children of Israel to place fringes in the borders of their garments (a ribband of blue). These fringes were to remind them of all the commandments of the Lord and do them, not seeking after their own heart and eyes. As they see the fringes, they would do all His commandments and be holy unto the Lord.

Though this is not commanded to us today, providing visual items on your clothes, body, or around you can be reminders of the Lord’s commands? This could be as simple as a favorite t-shirt, ring or bracelet, or a sign in your office.

Walk it O-F-F

Psalm 37:8 – Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

There comes a time when you’re so mad that the the scripture above doesn’t come to mind. In fact, the only thing that comes to mind when you’re mad is revenge; giving into temptation/sin; and going O-F-F on someone! Peace, love, calmness are no where near your mind.

Anger is a dangerous emotion. Anger desires a response. It doesn’t consider the consequences. It only considers itself – at all costs. It’s a highway to other emotions and actions:

A New Thought

Many people want to live a better life. They can visualize themselves as a loving parent, a faithful friend, and committed to serving the Lord with all their heart. However, what they see in reality is far from what they imagine in their mind.

What’s going wrong?! How can I get my life on the right track?!

There may be a number of things you must specifically accomplish to live the life the Lord desires for you to live. However, they cannot begin without a new way of thinking.

Your thoughts and perceptions affect the direction of your life. If you think you will never be an overcomer, then your decisions and actions will reflect it. But if you believe you can overcome, then your decisions and actions will follow. The process of change may not be easy (Hebrews 12:1-13), but the thoughts of a renewed and changed mind will keep you focused on achieving what you believe through Christ Jesus (Romans 12:1-2).

You are what you think. In order to change your decisions and actions, you must change your perspective on how you see yourself, your situations, and other events or ‘positions’ that affect them. As you remove negative thoughts and ‘positions’ from your life, you must add positive, affirming thoughts that motivate you to change. Through your knowledge of Jesus Christ, the Bible, and other affirming messages, you can begin the process of possessing the qualities that allow you to be all that God desires for you (Romans 8:29).

Philippians 4:8 (KJV)Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Have you ever thought about a situation that upset you? It seems that every time you think about the situation you get madder and madder. Within a few minutes, your stress is high, your anger is surging, and you’re ready to ‘throw down.’ By the time you see the ‘object’ of your anger again, you’re ready to strike. You then do everything in your power to treat them badly and make them pay for what they did. You find yourself acting in a manner that is far from godly and places you in an even worse position. Then you repeat the cycle of thinking and acting again and again – hurting yourself, others, and your witness for Christ.

Think Life

The decisions we make and our attitudes throughout the day (that affects those decisions) are often based on the thoughts we allow to fill our minds. If I’m thinking about negative issues all day (people, places, and things), how can I expect to be happy and upbeat?! I’ll be just as negative as the thoughts I allow to run free within my mind.

You become what you think!

If you’ve been wondering why you’re mad and upset throughout the day, take time to inventory what you’ve been thinking about. A change of behavior is as close as a change in thought…well…that’s where it begins. Strive to keep your mind in perfect peace by thinking about the right things:
