It seems that no matter how much we do or not do, temptation is around every corner...and we sometimes give into it. Though many situations seem to be geared toward sin, it can become an opportunity for growth.

Sometimes a change of view or mental state can help us see the blessing in our trials, the comfort others need, and the lesson(s) God want us to learn. There are painful situations that may darken each of our doorsteps, but how we view and address our situations will determine how we will get through them.

By no means am I trying to belittle anyone personal struggles or trials. I faced an issue (within the last month) that almost drove me to a mental breakdown! Instead of focusing on the promises (scriptures) of God and thoughts of love, peace, virtue, praise, etc. (Philippians 4:8), I focused on myself - my problems and my pain.

By repeating painful situations and problems, they can become the match that lights our fuse of greater anger, frustration, sadness, despair, rage, etc. Like stacking bricks upon one another, you build a strong tower that seems impossible to destroy.

When trials seem their worst, I have the opportunity to depend on the flesh or the Spirit. Depending on the flesh will bring actions in the flesh (which usually causes more problems, heartache, and pain). It seems easier to depend on the flesh at times...there's no work involved.

Proverbs 16:32 (KJV) - He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

Depending on the Spirit can be a lot harder on the flesh because you deny its opportunity to be comforted and pleased. When you try to deny the flesh, get ready for a fight! It is in these times that you must be consistently in the Word, prayer, and accountable fellowship. The flesh and Satan will not try you once and move on, they may stop by several times to sway your decision - especially if YOU are not fully convinced in your decision to follow the Spirit.

Though your tests and trials may be painful on your flesh, you will grow spiritually. 'The burn' of temptation does not last forever. Though it may feel like an eternity, you can make it through.

If we can see the opportunities for growth and blessing through our trials, they may be a little easier to endure...or at least weather through. All Christians have the purpose of becoming like Christ (Romans 8:29). While some changes may come automatic, others must be silenced through our decision to follow God's way.

You have the ability to control your thoughts, emotions, and actions. Though there may be much work ahead - it's not impossible through Christ!
