A couple of days ago, my wife asked me 'what happened to the DaVinci Code craze?' For countless weeks prior to the movie, it seemed that the entire nation was in a trance to its call. Books, manuals, videos, t-shirts, stickers, and anything else marketable displayed the mark of DaVinci (the movie). After its premier, it slowly faded among the other movies that has lost the affection of the nation (or at least until the DVD comes out).

The DaVinci Code movie came and went, but we're still here. It was once a huge conversation 'piece' among friends and family members, but those memories are long forgotten. We spent so much of our time and energy promoting, debating, correcting, and sharing, yet we barely remember what was said.

Fads will come, go, and return again, but we must stay grounded in things which have lasting value. The world is fickle. One day you're loved and the next day you're hated. To remain in the world's 'good graces,' you must continue to dance to its 'tune.' The world will never be satisfied and content. It will constantly drive you to look for the next 'big thing' to control your thoughts, conversations, and lives.

In a world of uncertainty and compromise, we must stay with the Lord. Jesus has seen millions of fads rise and fall while remaining the same the entire time (Hebrews 13:8). With Jesus, the standards are the same (self-denial, righteousness, etc.) and He is calling each of us towards it everyday. Let us stay committed to the lasting value of Christianity and not the fading deception of the world.
