This week I read a CD review in a Christian magazine. The magazine was featuring some of the newest artists in the music industry, but with one additional feature - A FIVE-STAR RATING!
I couldn't believe a rating system would be applied to Christian music reviews. For Christian artists, the goal should be to glorify God through music; bring people closer to Him (through praise and worship); and instruct through song. With the CD review, the magazine is giving the impression that Christian music is about good and bad products. Though there are Christian artists that may not be as 'polished' as others, ALL of them have the same goal...or at least they should.
This CD review seems similar to the ones found in secular magazines. As Christians, we should not allow our decisions or presentations to be based upon the products of the world. We must keep our focus on the context of glorifying Christ and not comparing products. We should celebrate the works of each person that seeks to proclaim God's message to the world - whether it is a polished product or not.
God has given each of us a message to share and a light to shine. May we do so with the strength, grace, and anointing given to us through Christ. May we see the unity of the underlying message of Jesus Christ and not the differences among us.
Celebrate Christ!
Mark 9:40 (KJV) - For he that is not against us is on our part.
