For the last few months, I've been watching a Korean comedy, 열아홉 순정, Pure in Heart (Pure 19). The comedy is in Korean with English subtitles, so it's not hard to follow along. Here's a brief synopsis:

Pure in Heart is about Gukhwa, a young country girl who leaves Yanbian (China) and goes to Seoul because she is getting married. When she arrives in Seoul, she finds out that her fiance had just died in a car accident. Instead of going back to China, she decides to stay and create a new life in Korea. With the help of her fiance's nephew, Woo Kyung, and his family, she is able to endure the hardships of living in a foreign country.

Though it is just a television show, I became encouraged by her constant endurance through each trial. She remained humble and grateful for everything she received - even when people were purposefully mistreating her. It was a witness to how we all should serve as Christians under constant hardships.

So many times we hold people to our expectations and when they don't deliver our results, we become upset...and this is wrong. We should remain thankful for the things we receive without considering the things we feel entitled to. Questioning the actions/intentions of others only leads to anger, bitterness, offense, and sin. If you think about it, these individuals are not entitled to give anything and we should be thankful for their gift.

What should you be thankful for?

Who should you be thankful to?
