Free Book: STAR Power

STAR Power by Hamp Lee III

The purpose of STAR Power is to address how we as leaders, pastors, etc. can motivate volunteers. Within my own ministry settings, the subject of motivating volunteers is almost non-existent. So many churches are looking for volunteers, but how many are striving to keep them motivated? I'm sure each of you knows at least 10 people (right now) that are stressed and burned out in ministry...with little or no motivation.

This short booklet addresses this issue under the headings of Support, Training, Appreciation, and Restoration (STAR). STAR Power provides a quick look into an area long overdue - motivate your volunteers!

I've been thinking about reformation lately. With the current events and other online discussions, I believe a reformation is in order. For almost 500 years we have held to the reformation of Luther from the Roman Catholic Church and I have no arguments with the theology/reasoning...but isn't a reformation needed today?

One of the definitions of reformation (dictionary.com) is improvement (or an intended improvement) in the existing form or condition of institutions or practices etc.; intended to make a striking change for the better in social or political or religious affairs .

This evening I was preparing an old Men's Message I taught to place on the website concerning the 'beatitudes.' After about 30 min, the Lord revealed how Jesus is describing the attributes of those ('kingdom' citizens) that will receive a reward in the kingdom of heaven (not earth...that's another topic). He later told me that the problem is that we have departed from His teachings (as in the Gospels)...not Paul's, James', or Peter's...HIS!

If you take a moment to read Matthew 5:3-12, you'll find that these attributes are hard to find...and that's in the church!

(check this out)

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) - Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

(read it again real slow)

Now, we can probably all agree that this is the Great Commission, but it has been an omission for many. We are called to:

  • make disciples of all nations (a person who is a pupil or an adherent of the doctrines of another; follower - dictionary.com)
  • baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
  • teach them to obey everything He commanded [the 11 disciples]

What church do you see all this happening? I'm sure they are churches like this out there, but I guarantee it's the exception and not the rule...just consider your own church for now.

Church, we must come out of darkness and return to the light. We have mirrored the world in almost every facet...now almost anyone can say they're a Christian...when before (Acts 11:19-29) they were called Christians because they were 'of Christ,' 'one of His,' 'resembled Him.' We have allowed God's name, His people, and position upon this earth to be shamed (Romans 12:15). How can any of us continue to cling to the world (and the flesh) to be all we can for it and serve God when we have time?! We're in danger of gaining the world and losing our soul! Christianity should not be a means to get worldly stuff (i.e. recognition, wealth, nothing)! Only you and God know the true condition of your heart. You mouth can say one thing, but God knows and sees all!

My fellow brothers and sisters, let us repent, return to our first love, and fulfill our commission! It's time to reform!

Heavenly Father, forgive us for turning away from You and our trespass of not keeping and teaching your commands. Soften our hearts, open our eyes and ears, and allow your grace to teach us anew. Help us Father to put away the deeds of the flesh. Let a reformation begin within me. May our light shine brightly in this dark world and bring glory to Your name. Cleanse us Father. In the name of Jesus Christ I commit these things to you in prayer. Amen.
