Free Book: STAR Power

STAR Power by Hamp Lee III

The purpose of STAR Power is to address how we as leaders, pastors, etc. can motivate volunteers. Within my own ministry settings, the subject of motivating volunteers is almost non-existent. So many churches are looking for volunteers, but how many are striving to keep them motivated? I'm sure each of you knows at least 10 people (right now) that are stressed and burned out in ministry...with little or no motivation.

This short booklet addresses this issue under the headings of Support, Training, Appreciation, and Restoration (STAR). STAR Power provides a quick look into an area long overdue - motivate your volunteers!

The world is never pleased or satisfied with today's hot thing for tomorrow. It wants something just as new the next day...and the next...and the next. Each day you'll find so many commercials, television shows, and other marketing schemes seeking our attention and support. In many ways, the Christian community is mirroring that trend.

Many churches and ministries are packaging and marketing the gospel to draw people which is commendable, but where does it end? Once the excitement for that program or service wears thin, many feel the pressure to create something newer to keep the attention of the masses. Then this cycle of providing these programs continues...seemingly without end.

At the end of the day, the mission, ministry, and passion can be lost under the cover of providing the best new 'thing.' Sure, the gospel is being preached, but at what cost? The focus of the ministry shifts where discussions are generated toward marketing and packaging instead of the message being shared; attendance is counted; numbers of supporters receive greater emphasis; and the packaging of God becomes the means to greater support. The message of the sacrifice of His Son is diluted within a ministry's attempt to provide the newest catchphrase and best-selling product...

Now, there's nothing wrong with various methods of evangelism and ministry to reach sinners and perfect the saints. I do believe God provides us with the ability to pursue various avenues to reach the world. The issue comes when greater focus is placed on the method and not the message spoken on behalf of our Father.

Churches and ministries do not have to sell themselves short by operating in a manner to draw larger crowds of people. As you see in the world, it doesn't last and it doesn't work...and if this has been your strategy, you've probably seen the same results. God is faithful and just to supply your every need.

Keep your focus on servicing Christ and not the hearts (and numbers) of people. People can be fickle and will change like the wind. If you chase the people and not the Father, get your track shoes ready!

Stay grounded on the principles, promises, and purposes God has placed before you and don't follow the crowd.
