1 Corinthians 9:19-22 (KJV) - For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
1. There are many ways people can be reached. In our desire to present the Gospel to the lost, the Church (as a whole) has developed many methods for evangelism. One of the methods we can 'use' is becoming all things to all men as Paul had. God may give us the opportunity to speak with different people on different levels. Whether someone is Christian or not, each can be approached in a manner that allows for dialogue and the presentation of the Gospel.
Our goal should be to build a rapport and a common foundation in order to share the truth about Jesus Christ without arguing over God’s precious Word. The entire Gospel message does not have to be shared in one setting (but this is as God leads). If God allows, we can be given other opportunities to share the Light of men (John 1:1-8). If not, then we may be the one person along their path to plant or water a 'seed' (1 Corinthians 3:1-9).
2. There is a specific way each person can be reached. There may come other times when God places us in someone's life for discipleship, provide words of instruction, etc. Based upon their knowledge of the Word and other gifts or talents, God would tell us the best way to minister to them effectively. We may not be able to use scriptures with one person, but another may not ‘receive’ us if we don’t.
Some people can be ‘reached’ through a hobby, sport, or activity they enjoy. Meeting someone on their 'playing field' builds trust and allows for open discussions about Jesus Christ and the problems that can be solved through Him. Though we should not be found in a strip club or at a human sacrifice ceremony to build opportunities for sharing the Gospel, we can try to find locations that provide a comfortable environment (and keep us from sin).
Some may need the Word hard, heavy, and without excuse – while others may not. Some people will not be able to receive anything from you and will need someone of the same sex, occupation, etc., and that’s OK. You can continue to pray for them and ask God to send someone into their life.
As Christians, we are all part of the same harvest field, collecting a bountiful harvest for our Heavenly Father (Matthew 9:35-38). Saving souls shouldn’t be about who you or I (personally) bring to Christ, but ensuring they receive the salvation Jesus died to give!
We must be sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and follow His lead. As disciples and ambassadors for Jesus Christ, we have been given the most important and precious role on earth (regardless of our worldly occupation). Regardless of your knowledge of the Bible or your current ‘position’ in church, you can reach someone for Jesus Christ. You can share how your life has been changed through Jesus Christ (i.e. your testimony).
What people are around you today that need to hear about Jesus Christ? Can the Holy Spirit use you to reach them?
