Children are a blessing. Solomon said that the parents should be glad and rejoice (Proverbs 23:25). I have rejoiced greatly since the birth of my daughter. I was as close as the doctor when she was delivered. I cut the umbilical cord and I stood by her side as she was weighed and measured. She was so small (especially compared to me).

I placed my index finger in the palm of her hand to see if she would respond. Between screams she would squeeze my finger and let go...how awesome! Over the years, I have watched her grow into a beautiful young girl. Though she is only 10, I continue to marvel at God's gift of life. I have learned love in its purest form.

As a dad, I want her to find success and happiness. I want her to excel in her classes; to take care of her business; and be able to shun peer pressure. I want my daughter to receive the best life as to offer - she has already received Christ! I want to give her the best of all I have and when I'm done, give her more, but I know that is not always good.

There will be times when I need to correct, teach, or guide. I must allow my love for her to lead me toward a well-balanced care for her ultimate well-being. Isn't this how the Lord loves us?

Our Father loves us and longs to see us live righteously before Him, but He won't spoil us. As the writer in Hebrews states the Lord disciplines those he loves (Hebrews 12:4-13). Love is a powerful emotion, but it does not equate only to giving good gifts. Sometimes the best thing for us is correction and we must take comfort in knowing that He loves us enough to show us the error of our ways. We are disciplined so that we might harvest of righteousness and peace.

Today my heart is full of love and I'm thankful God is allowing me to experience such a love with my daughter. I am truly honored and blessed. Thank You Father.
