1 Corinthians 7:9 (KJV) - But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. (read v.1-8 as well)

A martial union is much more than an opportunity to avoid sexual temptations. Now, there is something to be said for someone recognizing their temptations and choosing to marry to avoid a life of sexual sin. This is commendable (especially today) as many choose to live in sexual sin rather than marry to avoid it.

Marriage is a beautiful union of two souls - it is the framework for a lifelong partnership. It provides the comfort, conversation, compassion, support, nurturing, and discipline (when needed) to help build each person in all God wants them to be.

Avoiding sexual temptation is only one facet of marriage. Do not neglect the many aspects of love and support that frames the beauty of a life-long marriage.

  • How do you appreciate your spouse beyond sexual intimacy?
  • Have you neglected your spouse's needs beyond sexual intimacy?
  • Do you know what your spouse needs (support, affirming words, quality time, etc.)?
  • Have you only focused on your own needs?
  • What can you do to show your appreciation for your spouse?
