There are people in the world that must have an answer to every question. They cannot accept that there are some things in life that purposefully have no answer. Sadly, this is true within Christianity.

What we must understand about the Bible is that it is used for a specific purpose to accomplish a specific task. It is used to tell a certain story to its intended recipients, the world. Yet, not every question you have can be answered through the Word of God. There are some questions that the Bible is silent upon, but many people cannot leave it at that…they must have an answer.

For example, a man loves his car. He cleans it, cares for it, and buys many things for its looks and upkeep. One day, the man gets into a car accident and the car is wrecked beyond repair. Though the car is no longer drivable, he wants to be with the car in eternity. He asks his pastor and friends whether he will be able to see (and drive) his car in heaven. Though the Bible doesn't specifically say that cars don't go to heaven and they want to please the man, they say, 'sure, why not?! Why would God want to withhold something from you that gives you pleasure? He wants us to have life and life more abundantly, right? I'm sure your car will be waiting for you when you get to heaven.' Now, the man goes away with a satisfied answer, but an incorrect view of God and the scriptures. When this man goes off satisfied, he begins to tell others about this 'answer' as the need or circumstance arises. In time, cars going to heaven become an accepted standard across 'mainstream' churches as a doctrinal position.

There are a number of things wrong with that statement, but we hear stuff like this everyday.

We cannot speak where the Bible doesn't speak and assume that one issue or another is true because we're trying to assume about God's character and nature...AND please man (mankind). God has said that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9-10). When we try to assume God's position, we will only miss the mark and lead people from God and His Word - even if you didn't mean to do it intentionally.

Don't assume to know God's position on an issue if He hasn't already stated it. Stick to the truth of God's Word (in context) and encourage others to do the same.
