There are times when we act in disobedience and sin. We give into temptation, allow our lusts to be satisfied, and act as a friend of the world. Sometimes we seem to go so far from the Lord that it seems almost impossible to return. In these moments of returning to the vomit of our sinful actions (Proverbs 26:11), we seem to forget how we are to live as children of God. We fall on our previous acts of sin and take our place again in the world. We fill ourselves without the slightest thought of the consequences. Then somewhere along the way we take heed to the conviction from the Holy Spirit (John 16:7-8) and consider our sinful actions before a holy God.
The reality of sinful acts can bring a tremendous sting of guilt and shame. We wish we could take away all that was done, but we can't. We feel unworthy to be redeemed or forgiven for what we have done. Even in the midst of guilt and shame we feel in our heart, God is yet greater (1 John 3:20-24).
1 John 1:9 (KJV) - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
As written by the Apostle John, we find that God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from our unrighteousness. Even in the midst of our unfaithfulness, God is still faithful.
Go to God and confess your sins. Repent of your actions and turn to Him.
Psalm 119:9 (KJV) - Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Cleanse your way by taking heed to God's Word. Read it. Study it. Keep it close and hide it in your heart (Psalm 119:11).
There is hope. We can turn to the Lord.
Psalm 119:59-60 (KJV) - I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.
As written by the psalmist, we too should turn ourselves to the Lord and His Word as we consider our sinful actions. Through His Word we find the means of forgiveness and the promises that make us whole.
Don't delay your re-commitment to God. Turn to the Lord. Return to His commands.
