Little things are big! We look for the waiter/waitress that always knows when to fill our glass (and we don't have to ask) or someone that makes an extra phone call to help us with our issue/concern. As the little things touch our lives, we should be willing, ready, and able to do the same for others...for it is the little things that show others we are thinking of them; they are important to us; and what is important to them is important to us.

Within the office setting, one of the little BIG things is to remember the important days of your subordinates and co-workers. Birthdays and anniversaries (for example), are days that bring celebration or sobering reminders of a specific day. By keeping these days before you and sharing them within your office, you show them you care. For days that can be hard on someone (such as the death of a loved one), maybe some time off will help or the 'opportunity' to come into work a little later. Now saying this, some people may want to work through the day and not be reminded of their loss in the silence of their day. You have to know the character/personality of those that work with, for, and around you.
