Within the corporate workcenter, leaders and managers are charged with the task of meeting company goals. They are provided specific numbers of personnel and resources to ensure a successful result. Within the management of personnel and resources, I found three specific areas to help them succeed along the way: right people, right training, and right resources.

Right People

In developing 'right' people, the most important key is ensuring you're the 'right' person. The 'right' person embodies the values of their company and exemplary leadership qualities.

For leaders training personnel, it will be important for them to accept and mold their personnel into dependable and valued assets. This responsibility covers their understanding of company policies and behaviors and specific organizational tasks and positions. This will be a continuous process throughout their tenure in the workcenter and career with the company...

Right Training

As leaders develop their personnel, each one will have specific training needs in order to accomplish their assigned tasks. Here are three training areas that may require a leader's attention:

  • Company mandated training
  • Job-specific training
  • Professional/personal development or training
  • Office personnel must be proficient in their responsibilities. The same person that works for you today may work for someone else tomorrow. Therefore, it is the leader's responsibility to seek training opportunities to further develop them into the 'right' people.

    Right Resources

Leaders must remember that people are their most valuable resource. They must be attentive to their professional and personal needs. Leaders must ensure they have the proper support, time, and rest needed to fulfill their assigned tasks.

Lastly, leaders must also be conscious of the resources they need to complete their assigned tasks. Worn and outdated equipment on its 'last leg' are not allies in meeting your company's goals - they only expend irreplaceable time and energy. Leaders should not wait until the last item is used before requisitioning additional resources - be proactive!

Maintaining the balance of right people, right training, and right resources can be daunting at times. Even with the multitude of tasks and duties that are placed upon a leader's shoulders, their company has entrusted them with the charge of fulfilling its mission. Everyday will provide new opportunities and challenges that await a leader's attention, but in the midst of leading the charge, they must not forget those who heed its call.
