1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) - In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Our society (and flesh) has taught us to focus on the negative and the worst of situations, keeping us in a constant pattern of misery and negativity. This pattern affects our decisions, outlook on humanity, and our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.

We cannot forget that giving thanks is God’s will for us. Thankfulness prepares our heart to gladly accept the Lord and to thank Him for all that He has done. It allows us to see the good in our situations - moving us beyond negativity and placing our outlook on life in its proper perspective.

What can you do to keep an attitude of thanks?

  • Read scriptures on thankfulness.
  • Listen to songs of praise and/or worship that focus on thankfulness and God's goodness.
  • Read inspirational stories.
  • Create a Journal of Praise, writing the good things God has done in your life and reflect upon them often.
  • Speak with friends that help you retain or regain an attitude of thanksgiving.

There are many things that can be done to keep you focused on giving thanks in all circumstances. Find ways to keep your light shining in spite of the darkness which seeks to cloud your life. Allow thankfulness to propel you into an atmosphere and environment of praise and worship before the Father.
