G.O.A.T. is an acronym for the Greatest of All Time. Many times this reference has been used to describe sports athletes or recording artists, but in whatever application, it refers to someone or something that is undisputedly…the best.

From the Old Testament to the New Testament, the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all of our heart, mind, and soul (Joshua 22:5; Matthew 22:36-41).

May the greatest commandment of all time become our greatest focus and priority in life.

The Lord wants you to love.

Everyday we meet people at their worst, living contrary to our beliefs, and care very little about themselves or others. And though they may not say it or show it, each of them wants or needs love.

Love is what we owe every person, whether we agree with their behavior or not. Love transcends sex, race, position, rank, and condition. Everyone deserves to be loved.

You don’t need a spiritual gift to love. It’s the one thing we all can do.

Romans 13:8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Accepting God’s Will

1. There are times when we will not accept God’s will because it is not inline with what we want to do or believe is right at the time. In reading the story of Jonah, he was called of God to go to Ninevah to cry against it. Jonah therefore arose and fled from the presence of God in the opposite direction of Ninevah (Jonah 1:1-3). After he spoke against the city, it is discovered that He didn’t want to see the people of Ninevah repent of their evil (Jonah 4:1-3). He knew God would forgive them if they repented of their evil.

There are many things God will call us to do. Many times they will come without notice and may even challenge the way we believe or feel toward the intended audience…and we may not want to do what He asked us.

The hardest part for many people is to accept His will for them.

Knowing God’s Voice

Jesus tells a parable about a pasture land that is given to the sheep that follow Him (John 10:1-18). This peaceful pasture land is given through the gift of eternal life. The sheep represent those the Lord has called by name, loved, and cared for. Jesus said that the sheep know His voice and follow Him (into eternal life) – a stranger they will not follow (John 10:3-5).

Many people want to know how to hear God’s voice. However, the BIGGER desire (or question) must be to KNOW His voice. God speaks to us all (even before believing in Jesus)…and so does the devil (and our own lust). The issue is to recognize God’s voice above all others, so that when He speaks, you know it is the Lord.

Have you ever had a VERY strong desire to do something, but you soon found that it wasn’t God’s will for you? You scream at the top of your lungs in disapproval and vent your frustrations. Your emotions cry out, your heart hurts, and your mind is losing its grip…yet, God’s decision remains unchanged. Regardless of the internal or external tantrum we put up, God calmly speaks His will.

I am thankful that God allows us to voice our pains, frustrations, and even disagreements. The venting anger often reveals our truest emotions (and some over inflated ones as well). He helps us place our lives into its proper perspective and see our situations through His love. Though you may believe your desire may be the best solution for your circumstances, God is sovereign and knows what you and others need. Your desire could mess up His plans for you or someone else even though you have the purest of intentions. Your way may only cause more heartache and grief, rather than joy and prosperity.

We may not always understand God’s purposes, but we must accept them graciously. He knows what He’s doing. God has our best interest at heart and will move heaven and earth to help us. God is not just looking at the temporal and here and now, He’s looking into eternity!

With a calm mind and spirit, we can say “your will be done Father.” Amen.
